Particular areas of building and construction law that Mike is passionate about are helping his clients with protecting their interests and when dispute resolution is required, whether it’s security of payments, adjudication, or in proceedings in NCAT, VCAT, QCAT, the Magistrates Local Courts, the District Courts, the Supreme Courts or the Courts of Appeal, helping his clients resolve the dispute as quickly and cost effectively as possible is always at the forefront.
There is no substitute for experience, especially where, some of the legal processes can take several months and sometimes years to progress a matter to resolution.
Mike has been practicing in and the director of his own practice, Wilkinson Building & Construction Lawyers Pty Ltd for more than 10 years and in that time has dealt with more than 575 matters for clients, which have involved contract drafting, negotiation, interpretation, management and disputes resolution with values of between $20,000 and $30,000,000.00.
Clients include, individuals, homeowners, residential and commercial builders, developers, schools, ASX listed companies, businesses, banks, accountants, liquidators, strata managers, owners corporations, manufacturers and other barristers and solicitors.
It’s the experience gained from and the privilege of working for his clients on all those matters which makes Mike an experienced practitioner, with emmence knowledge of building and construction law.
Mike is admitted to practice as a solicitor in the Australian Capital Territory, the High Court of Australia, Queensland and New South Wales and New Zealand. He has trained and employed solicitors who have gained the experience and confidence from Mike to go on to establish their own practices.
He has significant experience with both small and large contracts which involve between 2 and 410 parties with vested interests in the building and construction works.
As a member of the Master Builders Association he has a keen interest in the building industry and the issues which builders and the receipents of the builders works face.
Mike has also been trained and accrediated as a mediator.
